Memorial Scholarship



The Washington State Crime Prevention Association has established a scholarship in memory Brion S. Schuman. Mr. Schuman served as a Crime Prevention Officer in Seattle University from 1982 until his death in 1991. He served on the Washington State Crime Prevention Board of directors for many years including President of the Association prior to his death.

The Association offers one scholarship annually. The award is in the form of a check for $500.00, payable to the college or university in which the recipient is enrolled and may be used for any purpose. Its intent is to help defray some of the costs of attending college.

Eligibility for this scholarship is open to any student enrolled at a 4-year Washington State College or university, public or private at the time of application. Financial need is not a criteria for eligibility.

Information about this scholarship will be made available at the school's Financial Aid Office. A letter requesting an application may be submitted to the Washington State Crime Prevention Association, 1631 West Rose, Ste. F-615, Walla Walla, Washington 99362. Information about this scholarship will be made available to schools on January 15th of each year. Applications must be submitted to the Washington State Crime Prevention Association office by March 31st.The award will be announced in the Spring. The Washington State Crime Prevention Association will present the award at the annual Association Awards Banquet. The winner need not be present, however the Washington State Crime Prevention Association will defray any costs in attending the awards ceremony.

The application asks for personal information, including a history o academic achievement, student activities, community involvement as well as a statement of personal goals. A short essay Scholarship Committee comprised of officers from around the State of Washington. All completed applications become the property of the Washington State Crime Prevention Association.

The Washington State Crime Prevention Association (WSCPA) announces the Brion S. Schuman Memorial Scholarship, offered annually to the student enrolled in a 4 year public or private college or university in the State of Washington.

The $500 award may be used by a student to defray college expenses. Information is available from any eligible school's Financial Aid Office. Applications are available after January 15th from the Washington State Crime Prevention Association, 1631 West Rose #F615, Walla Walla, WA 99362. Applications must be submitted by March 31 for awards to be made for the next school year. Awards are announced in the spring.

The Washington State Crime Prevention Association is an organization of crime prevention officers and volunteers dedicated to reducing the risk of crime in Washington. Membership is open to all law enforcement officer, volunteers and persons working to reduce crime in our state.
